One afternoon happy hour at Nokomo’s, I was eying the tiki decorations and explaining to Michelle and the McBrehmens that it was a travesty that I had no tiki songs. After some proper research (by that I mean more drinks), we started listing all the things we’re too tiki for, and soon my problem was fixed.
JP provides the pan, but that was the only normal thing we did on this track. Since we’re too tiki for proper recording, we just had fun with friends at their house (Eagle Fang Manor/Studio), making stuff up and being silly. Ric and I continued with some rum soaked creativity in his tiki hut and somehow a song happened. So if people tell you that you have to be or do something you don’t want, just remember this instrument list (Yes, I played a shotski), and say “I’m too tiki for that!”
backing vocals, bongos – Bill Brehm, Kristin McFadden,
Michelle Brewer, Bill & Dee Tropp
ukulele solo, banter vocals – Bill Brehm
timbale, rum bottle, mouth bubbles, “cheehoo” – Ric Brewer
dundun, balafon, krin, shotski – Donny Brewer

You can have your escargot
Drink an 82 chateaux
Gimme conch fritters and
rum punch to go
Cuz I’m too tiki for that
Said I’m too tiki for that
That Armani looks good on you
But I’d rather wear a bathing suit
And Mai Tai’s a little different too
Cuz I’m too tiki for that (too tiki)
See I’m too tiki for that (too tiki)
You may know a lotta famous faces
Yeah, but I got friends in aloha places
I got a stage in my backyard
Where my friends come play guitar
Don’t need a stadium superstar
No I’m too tiki for that (too tiki)
I say I’m too tiki for that ukulele time
Do you want it one more time? Tease
Big Mahalo for your pop hits
But for me, they’re not so swift
See, I’d rather hear an Izzy tune
From my tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room
I said my tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room (yeah)
(oh my) (Cheehoo!)
Some parties lean left or right
But Tiki people they ain’t that uptight
They say my kinda party,
it goes all night
Cuz I’m too tiki for that (too tiki)
They say I’m too tiki for that
Everybody say I’m too tiki, oh so tiki
I’m too tiki for that
How y’all like that? (pretty good)
(too tiki) I’m too tiki for that
(can you be more Pacific?)
I’m too tiki for this hat
I’m too tiki for my shirt
And my pants
Ok, I’m too tiki for my pants
(too tiki) I’m too tiki for that
I’m too tiki for that
(too tiki, too tiki, too tiki, I’m too tiki)
(too tiki, too tiki, too tiki, I’m too tiki)
If you see a tiki sign
at the side of the road
It says 15 miles to the tiki bar
(yeah) (cheehoo!)
I’m too tiki for this song
